ATLANTA -- Back-to-back shutout wins have reminded the Giants they expected to lean on strong starting pitching to defend their World Series championship. Zay Jones Jersey . That hasnt always been the case and Madison Bumgarner said its a good time for the staff to get more consistent. Bumgarner allowed two hits in seven innings and combined with Sandy Rosario for a three-hit shutout in the San Francisco Giants 6-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. The win came one day after Matt Cain was similarly dominant in leading San Francisco to a 10-0 shutout of the Pirates. The consecutive shutouts are highlights in an overall slow start for the staff. Bumgarner (6-4) and Cain (5-3) each moved two games over .500 with the latest wins. Tim Lincecum is only 4-6 and Barry Zito is 4-5. "Were all just not catching any breaks right now," Bumgarner said. "Weve all got to start locking it in. Were coming up on the second half here. If we want to make a playoff push, I think everybody knows its time to turn it around." Bumgarner was dominant in earning his second straight win. The left-hander did not allow a baserunner for 4 2-3 innings before losing his bid for a perfect game in the fifth and shot at a no-hitter in the sixth. Bumgarner matched his season high with 10 strikeouts while walking one. "He really has been consistent all year, but this was up there as one of his best starts," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Atlantas Kris Medlen (3-7) lasted six innings and gave up four runs on nine hits, including a homer by Gregor Blanco to lead off the game. The Giants had five doubles off Medlen. Bumgarner said he never thought Blancos leadoff homer would provide the only run he would need, especially after he didnt feel sharp when warming up before the game. "No, not against a team like this," Bumgarner said. "It wasnt terrible in the bullpen, but it wasnt very good and so I kind of needed to get it together. Fortunately, I was able to do that and dial it in and make pitches and it worked out in our favour." Buster Posey had three doubles. Blanco had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the second. Rosario allowed one hit in two scoreless innings. Andrelton Simmons singled with one out in the ninth and moved to second base on Jason Heywards groundout. Rosario struck out Justin Upton to end the game. The Braves, who were swept in a three-game series at San Diego to end a 2-5 road trip, have lost four straight. Atlanta couldnt push a baserunner past second. "Right from the very beginning we go down 1-0 and they added some runs, which probably made (Bumgarner) even tougher to face," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Our bats didnt look very good, I think, because of that. We couldnt put the ball in play." Bumgarner, pitching one year and one day after Cains perfect game against Houston, did not allow a baserunner until B.J. Upton walked with two outs in the fifth. Bumgarner then struck out Dan Uggla, who remained at home plate to argue the called third strike with umpire Gary Darling. Atlantas Brian McCann also disagreed with a called third strike by Darling earlier in the fifth inning. Chris Johnson led off the sixth with a bloop single to right-centre field for Atlantas first hit. Bumgarner had a quick answer when asked when he became aware he was working on a no-hitter. "After the first out," he said. The Giants took a 2-0 lead in the second when Joaquin Arias doubled and scored on Blancos single. The Giants added a run in the third on back-to-back doubles by Posey and Hunter Pence. Two more doubles by Posey and Brandon Crawford in the fifth pushed the lead to 4-0. San Francisco added two runs off Braves rookie Alex Wood in the seventh. Poseys third double drove in Tony Abreu, who walked. Wood, who walked two more batters in the inning, forced in a run with his bases-loaded balk with Andres Torres at the plate. Braves general manager Frank Wren announced during the game that right-hander Brandon Beachy will not make his scheduled 2013 debut in Tuesdays doubleheader against the Mets. Wren said Beachy, returning from elbow ligament-replacement surgery in June of last year, was "a little tender" following Thursday nights rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett in Rochester. Beachy was back in Atlanta on Friday and was examined by a Braves doctor. "We think its a very minor setback," Wren said. "Were not sure exactly when well insert him back in. Its really a function of when hes feeling good again." NOTES: Blancos homer was his first of the season and his first career leadoff shot. ... Wren said the Braves would select a replacement starter for Beachy on Sunday. ... Giants 2B Marco Scutaro, hit by a pitch on his left pinkie finger on Tuesday, played some catch before the game and hit in the cage. Bochy said Scutaro is "coming around" but is in a "holding pattern" until the team returns to San Francisco on Monday. ... Bochy said OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) is "not quite ready" to come off the 15-day DL but is improving. ... Braves LHP Mike Minor will face Giants RHP Chad Gaudin on Saturday. Ramon Humber Jersey . -- Matt Ryan needed one of the best games of his career to lead the Falcons and their depleted offence out of their three-game losing streak last week. Adolphus Washington Jersey . White came in fourth place in the event. He was the two-time defending gold medallist. The gold medal went to Swiss snowboarder Iouri Podladtchikov. http://www.thebillsgearshop.com/Bills-Harrison-Phillips-Draft-Jersey/ . Colin Wilson had two goals and an assist, and Mike Fisher scored a goal and helped set up two others in the Predators 6-4 victory over the Red Wings on Monday night.WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals didnt have a close shave, and neither did Davey Johnson. The 70-year-old manager still looked closer to 80 after the Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 Friday night, sporting the scraggly beginnings of facial hair he had vowed to keep until his team started hitting. Five runs werent enough, even though it was the most the Nationals had scored in a week. There was also a four-run fifth, the first time Washington had put up four or more in an inning in almost a month. Johnson said he told a couple of his players: "Its getting close to coming off." Their response: "They said it cant come off yet," "My wife, she probably wants me to take it off, Im sure she does," Johnson said. "But I might leave it on, see if this is not something strange happening here." The outburst of hitting provided the rare gift of a cushion for Jordan Zimmermann, who became the National Leagues first eight-game winner as Washington followed a calamitous road trip with a winning start to a homestand. Zimmermann (8-2), pitching with a stiff neck that limited his control of his fastball, allowed two runs and six hits with no walks over seven innings -- actually raising his ERA to 1.71 -- on an unseasonably chilly and windy night in the nations capital. "I kind of cut him a little shorter than I normally would," Johnson said. "He still threw a heck of a ball game." There was at least a bit of heat from the Nationals lineup, which entered the game hitting .225, second worst in the majors. Washington had just completed a 10-game West Coast road trip that included a four-game losing streak, the teams sixth shutout loss of the season, Bryce Harpers head-first collision with a wall and a broken hand for Ryan Mattheus after he punched his locker following a rough outing. Then Johnson arrived at the ballpark Friday saying: "I decided I wouldnt shave until we started hitting." If Johnson does pull out the razor, Steve Lombardozzi should get due credit. Playing second while Danny Espinosa recovers from a broken wrist, Lombardozzi had three hits, including a two-out, two-run double that capped the rally in the four-run fifth. "We score on pass balls, groundballs or short fly balls," Johnson said. "We havent been getting base hits. To score five runs, weve been kind of stuck on none oor one or two, so that was a big shot in the arm. Patrick DiMarco Jersey. quot; Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick (4-3) had his shortest outing of the season, allowing five runs and eight hits over five innings. He walked four for the second consecutive start, including three consecutive bases on balls that allowed the Nationals to score a run in the second with a sacrifice fly and no hits. "Command was bad, threw a lot of balls, didnt get ahead in the count," Kendrick said. "Another one of those nights where it was 2-0, just behind the count, and I threw a lot of pitches." The Phillies missed a chance to pull even in two ways. A win would have put them at .500 for the first time since April 14, and it also would have tied them with the Nationals, who had lost four of five and have been mired in mediocrity while dealing with the expectations of Johnsons preseason proclamation of "World Series or bust." "Obviously, weve kind of been up and down all year," Kendrick said. "We had a chance to get it back tonight. Had a couple runs there and I couldnt hold it." Notes: Rafael Soriano picked up his 14th save. ... Washingtons last four-run inning came April 25 against the Cincinnati Reds. ... Headgear on both players when flying when Tyler Moore crashed into Kratz while trying to score on Lombardozzis single in the fourth inning. Kratz held on to the ball, and Moore was out. ... Both teams are missing star power. The Phillies dont have Roy Halladay (shoulder surgery) and Chase Utley (oblique strain), while the Nationals are making do without Jayson Werth (hamstring) and Espinosa, who learned Friday that hes been playing with a slight fracture in his right wrist and will need a few days of rest, if not more. ... The Nationals plan to bring up INF-OF Jeff Kobernus from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday and will likely designate RHP Yunesky Maya for assignment. ... Philadelphia recalled INF-OF Michael Martinez and RHP Michael Stutes to replace Utley (disabled list) and RHP Phillippe Aumont (optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley). ... Phillies RHP Mike Adams (right back strain) felt fine after a second rehab bullpen session Friday and is expected to be reactivated Sunday. ... Washington LHP Ross Detwiler will throw a full bullpen session Saturday and remains on pace to return to the rotation Tuesday after skipping one start because of back spasms.
